  • However, we should note that installing unofficial ROMs on the mobile phone is not recommended, and that the process would void the warranty, not to mention that it might also cause damage to the device, in case it it not performed as it should be. Those who would like to give it a try should head over to the XDA-Developers forum here to learn more on the matter and to find the necessary download links. Sony Ericsson announced officially that it won't release a new OS version for the Xperia X10 devices past the Android 2.1 flavor, and the new ROM is an unofficial software, and also a buggy one, it seems. The software comes from the guys over at XDA-Developers, and is currently only in an alpha state, which means that there are still a lot of features that are not working for the time being. However, in case there are some who would like to try something new on their handsets, and not remain stuck with the Android 2.1 OS platform, they should know that a custom Android 2.3 Gingerbread ROM is available for the device. Hopefully, Sony Ericsson would manage to deliver in faster than it did with the OS upgrades for the Xperia X10 and the rest of the Xperia family of Android devices. Unfortunately, no specific info on when the software would be released emerged, but more on this should be announced in the near future. The multi-touch firmware should arrive in the first quarter of the ongoing year, Sony Ericsson promised several months ago, and can be seen at work in the video embedded below. Unfortunately, no new OS flavor would be included with that software update, although users would certainly enjoy one, but the capabilities of the device would be expanded.
